I feel that FOOD should never ever be an award. ( now slap me cause I have done this. ) I mean I know its bad but I have done it. DARN ME!!! hold on while I go put myself in a time out.
Ok I do reward with things like say time on Webkinz, or time with mommy or daddy doing something special.

I see nothing wrong with rewarding a child for good grades. I would NOT give something for each grade. However, when report cards come out and the child did very welll, I may do something...like take her out to eat, take her to a movie, something like that.
I homeschool...so I don't give anything for good grades..lol. They have no choice but to get good grades. However, I will every now and then reward for behavior and such. For instance, I have a popcorn program starting next week...the kids earn popcorn points and in the end they can win a night out at the movies.
I dont' do that very often because frankly I'm not good at keeping up on that stuff. lol

My children are not at school just yet, but I think that your child should get good grades because they want to, because they enjoy it, not because they are going to get a reward for it. However I think that it would still be nice to do a point system or something like that. So many good grades and you get something special. Not just reward them because.
I didn't ever get a reward for having good grades when I was at school, then again, I don't think I did that well at school anyway so maybe that is why :)

I never believed that I should pay for grood grades, but when my diabetic teenager needed an incentive for remembering to check his blood sugar I offered to pay $1.00 for every time he got 100 on the meter. My non-diabetic children were jealous, so I expanded the incentive to include any time any of my children earn 100 on a "test."

I think rewards are wonderful incentives, or even unexpected treats after the fact! Rewards come in all different shapes and sizes. Number 1 is that they know I love them no matter what their perfomance. "Bad" grades let us know where improvements need to be made and this is done with encouragement. Sometimes character issues need to be dealt with such as apathy, laziness, etc.
So, yes, I love rewarding my children for jobs well done!

My girls just got their report cards home. All A's. I happend to find great deals on DS games and DVD's at Walgreens so I guess it turned out great. I spent a total of $8 on a game and four movies...(I'm the deal snatcher!)
They never ask for too much. Their usually happy with the littlest things. It's always nice to reward them for just being them. I give my kids way more than what I had growing up but they know that if they can't have something, it's not the end of the world! :)

Back when my kids were in school I let them have someone spend the night if they got straight As. Now that they're all being homeschooled I don't do report cards. I probably will when they get older, but not yet.
