Day 20: Leave Comments on Other Blogs

Started by Lynda , author of Daily Window {Photography. Photo Editing. Inspiration.} 8/7/2010 8:16:51 AM

Good morning ladies!  Our deepest apologies for being a bit behind posting today's task! We've all been too busy commenting on other blogs and completely forgot. :)

Today we're to spend 10-15 minutes commenting on other blogs.  Every time you comment, you leave a little invitation back to your site for others to follow.  More importantly, through comments you can connect to other bloggers in your niche (or with your interests) and see what other readers have to say.

It's very important NOT to come across as a spammer when you're commenting.  Leave thoughtful, relevant comments.  Don't ask others to visit your site just because you're visiting theirs.

On to the questions!

1) Do you normally spend at least 15 minutes a day commenting on other blogs? Why or why not?

2) What are some reasons you DON'T comment on an entry you otherwise would have?  (For example, a registration process deters me from commenting.)

If you have any links to share today, please do!

Yes! I'm always leaving comments...! If I see a craft, project, decorating redesign, sewing pattern or recipe that inspires me, I'm letting them know how great I think it is! I even sometimes email them directly to ask questions about the process, materials, etc.

I will still try to leave comments even if there are a few hoops to jump through. More recently I've been having a hard time leaving comments on a couple of blogs - I went as far as emailing them to let them know about the issue.

Here's a post that I shared a lot of blog love to those who completely & creatively inspire me. {Many are fellow SITS girls too!} Happy weekend!

I do do this. The reason I do this is because people like to know others are reading their blogs. They like to know what other people think about their posts too. I love it when I received comments so of course I love to give them to others.

If I have to register I wont comment. If I have to just leave name, email and url I will though because I am more likely to get a response that way.

Yes I love to read and comment on blogs!

I won't comment however unless I really have something to say.  There have been just a few times that I've read a post and there's just isnt a comment in my brain so instead of "Great post!"  I just don't comment at all.

I do try to spend some time commenting on posts everyday.  Especially the people that comment on my site.  I always venture over to theirs and checkout what they're up to.

Things that deter me from leaving comments on others blogs:

Can't find the comment button.

have to register to leave comments

or don't have anything in common with post or postee

Happy Saturday, off to comment on more #31DBBB blogs!

I'd say I spend at least 15 minutes commenting on blogs (waaaaay more if you count reading through them every day to find something to comment on!). Joining the SITS community made it more apparent to me that just as a the saying goes "to be a friend you have to show yourself friendly" in order to be a blogger who gets read, you have to read others. Reading leads (sometimes) to discussion or commenting.

Commenting, though, is tricky business. Just like on forums where you have to scroll through dozens of "me too" replies to find the real conversations within, I try to make sure that my comment is going to add something to the mix be it support for a blogger's situation, a question about something they wrote or answering the question they posed. If I don't comment on a favorite blog that day, it's usually because I have nothing to add. The various verification processes some bloggers use can be annoying, but I understand why they do it (SPAM is evil) so I usually don't let that stop me from commenting if I really have something to say.

I do comment a lot - I probably have commented less than normal during this challenge because I"ve been short on my "online time" but I do love to comment & leave encouragement.   I know how a comment can make my day so I try to do the same!

A complicated registration will stop me for sure - but also my internet speed sometimes stops me!  Especially this summer!  I will load 3-4 blog posts and read them, but getting the comment box to open might take another whole round of loading and sometimes with 4 kids I'm off & away.  If I totally disagree or can't relate to the subject, I may be at a loss.  Honestly, I wish I had time to read and comment more!  I'm going to set aside time this fall when the kids are back to school and I have more leeway.

If I'm really enamored with a post or blog, challenge or the like, I'll do a post like I did with this one.  Don't you all want to post your favorite yellow photo?  This gives me more to post about and I feel like it connects me with others in my niche too.  I play along with as many challenges as I can.

Okay - that was long winded!  sorry!!  :)

I try to comment a lot.  I like to send the bloggy love!  From what I know people love comments....and followers, so I try to make it a point to comment if I have something relevant to say.

1. Yes I do spend a lot of time reading and commenting on other blogs everyday. Especially returning the favor to those who commented on my blog. I like getting comments so I know how important it is to comment back!

2. If I'm going to leave a comment I don't let anything stop me. It's definitely an inconvenience to register but it doesn't take very long so I go ahead and do it. Commenting is such a nice gesture, so it's worth a little effort sometimes.

This task is probably my favorite one so far! I have always had the gift of gab...and it certainly flows through my writing! So if I visit...most likely you will know about it in your comment section! :)

I don't know if I spend 15 minutes EVERY day commenting on blogs...only for the fact that I don't have time to every day. I will say that if I do visit a blog, I try to leave a comment, because I know how important it is.

I have jumped through hoops sometimes to comment on friend's blogs, but if I have to spend too much time with signing in, word verification, enter, then go through moderation, for-get it. Too much time. I have updated my comments section because of that and might possibly try adding Discus(sp?) so that folks can link back to their blogs. Hard to do that with Blogger though....

Well, I'm a bit shy to leave comments. I always think that it won't do any difference, I won't add anything to the blogger and everybody else had already said what i'd like to say, so...

But i'm working hard to be more active and write "useful" comments
