Day 9: Join a Forum and Start Participating

Started by Lynda , author of Daily Window {Photography. Photo Editing. Inspiration.} 7/26/2010 9:37:31 PM

Welcome to Day 9 of the 31DBBB Challenge! We're nearly 1/3 there and ladies, let me tell you how extraordinarily well you are doing!  I've been blogging for a decade and your professionalism and dedication is blowing me away.  I wish there were more hours in the day so I could read and comment on all your entries!

Today's task is one we're all pretty familiar with, considering we are all chatting away about these tasks on BlogFrog's forums.  Let's take 15 minutes to participate in a forum related to our niche.  There are tons of communities right here on BlogFrog (just a click away!).

- If you have a BlogFrog community, please link up to it for others to find including a short blurb about what niche, or topics it covers.
- If you'd like to create your own community and need any help, please see BlogFrog's vast Help Center on the topic!

Here are today's questions! (Okay, they're more like essay prompts...)

1) What forums, here or elsewhere, do you like to frequent or which did you join for this task? What do you like/dislike about them?

2) If you've successfully driven traffic to your site from forums, what do you think contributed to your success?  Please share your secrets!  If you've just started participating or you've never really gotten traffic from forums, what would lead you to follow a link off a forum post? What do you think about incorporating them in your blog?

As always, if you discuss today's task on your blog or just want to link up to your latest entry, please do so! And try to visit at least one other participant when you have time, but the more the merrier - share the love!

First! Woop!

1) What forums, here or elsewhere, do you like to frequent or which did you join for this task? What do you like/dislike about them? I enjoy the #31DBBB discussions here at BlogFrog, but they do get overwhelming. I have joined The Lady Bloggers Society and the Red Dress Club, do those count?

2) If you've successfully driven traffic to your site from forums, what do you think contributed to your success?  Please share your secrets!  If you've just started participating or you've never really gotten traffic from forums, what would lead you to follow a link off a forum post? I'm very new to forums, and I still find them a bit scary. But the clubs I mentioned bring a lot of traffic through link parties... and I don't need to tell any of you how many people come to visit thanks to 31DBBB! :)

My newest post is an experiment with a new section, which I am super excited about: Bad Mom Confessions.

I am currently a part of a few forums in my niche.  My biggest challenge is finding the time to stay active in these forums.  Recently I have only remained in the forums that I am really active in and have found to be the most useful.

Participating in forums has driven some traffic to my blog but not on a regular basis.

1) I just joined BlogFrog a few weeks ago, believe it or not.  My timing was perfect because I found this lovely group and challenge and the rest is history!    I also frequent the Clickin' Moms and Love That Shot forums for photographers.  It's a great community of women and I'm learning a lot of about photography through them.  Mostly what I dislike about communities is that I don't have full control over them.  On my site, I have full control over what everything looks like and how it functions.  It's always hard to let someone else do what they want formatting-wise with my content.

2) I haven't had a whole lot of traffic from forums, but I find the act of participating along, making sure my link is visible with each post (either through signature or profile) makes people curious enough to click.  I can't wait to see what tricks people have to successfully drive traffic to their site via forums!

I just joined BlogFrog through SITS!  So happy I found this great place!

I will visit someones site from a forum if their comments amuse me or they have helpful information!

1.  I just joined Blogfrog last week- but have already been introduced to so many awesome people(and blogs)-  That has given me a lot of traffic.  I've also been a member of an medical forum for a few years- I put my website in my signature- and I get a lot of clicks from that- but not really anyone comments from that- so I'm not sure who are repeat readers.

2. I think you have to be very involved in the forum for people to want to come visit you- My traffic from the other forum correlates to how much I'm posting there.

I would like to find a way to put the comment love thingee in my signature in that other forum- but I'm not sure that's possible.  Anyone know??  I think linking to specific titles of posts gets more clicks than a website-

so without further ado....my last post Books: Like crack, only for nerds

Blog Frog is my first forum so I'm enjoying "learning the ropes" so to speak.

I've seen a huge amount of traffic from Blog Frog recently so i am ecstatic about Blog Frog. It has definitely reinforced what Darren has taught in his workbook!

I have a community here on Blog Frog. http://theblogfrog.com/1388554

I haven't done a great job at getting involved in forums.  I get frustrated by the amount of time they require.  As a working mom, I feel like my time is so limited that for me to get very involved with a forum feels like a luxury that I just don't have.  I'd love to do more with them.  I've been involved in 2 photography forums.  I've even created my forum here on BlogFrog - I posted one question and then haven't been back to it.  It is much easier for me to post on other's communities than to try and get mine going.

For this task, I entered the Project Mom contest.  I decided that it is a potentially cool forum.

I think that in order to really use a forum to draw traffic to your site, you have to be involved on a daily basis with your forum and I think that takes more than the 15 minutes a day.  Especially if that forum is your own blog frog community.  It takes time to get into the discussions others start on yours and you also have to continue coming back to the ones you start.

Answer: Well obviously this one!  Also, my own - Single Chick Chat - please visit us Single Chicks to chat about travel, hobbies, and of course, dating!

Answer: Well being interesting is always good!  Lose the spam and start a real conversation - which sometimes just means listening to what others have to say!

I frequent here and BlogStar with the most comments, but when I have the time I tend to float around to many of the communities reading.

Not much success yet, but I think that is because I need to comment more.  I do tons of reading but not enough commenting.

That is such a great idea! I love it! Sometimes it's good to know that people feel the same way you do.

My "link post" recently was about different blog hops and things to do in bloggy land! This is another great one I can add to the list!

If you are interested in linking it the post is HERE.
