Keeping track of comments you make?

Started by Alana , author of Domestically Challenged 7/21/2010 2:05:30 PM

Hi all,

First of all, I am loving all the support from this site - it makes the challenge so much fun!

I'm wondering about how you keep track of comments you make on other blogs. For instance, I can't remember where I commented on Monday...is there an easier way to keep track so you can keep going back, without subscribing in a feeder? My reader needs to be cleaned up desperately.

TIA!

Alana

Perhaps I'm more haphazard than most, but I check in on the blogs I love reading when I have time to read... if there's nothing new I move on to the next.  I click on a few random SITS blogs when I check in each day...and if there's nothing new/that I want to comment on I move on... Definiely not something I take uber seriously

I don't really keep track per se BUT my Reader is divided into categories like local bloggers, fave bloggers, etc and I try to make each day of the week designated for commenting on one particular category, i.e. monday- locals, tuesday- fave, etc. It's worked out OK but I am always behind. Nice concept- harder to practice in reality!!

well it doesn't keep them out of your reader, but i put all the blogs i've commented on in a specific folder in google reader. i use lots of folders so that i can read on just the topic i'm looking for at the time and if i'm in a commenting mood i can work on just the commented folder

Great question!  I cannot wait to see everyone's responses!

Sometimes I will subscribe to email notifications.

Another thing I'll do is use Google Reader to keep track of posts I comment on.  Under the "Goodies" section of the settings there are bookmarklets.  I use the one for "Note in Reader", which is basically a way to share or bookmark a page in Google Reader.  After commenting, I click "Note in Reader" and then  assign a "commented at" tag.

That makes it easy to go look through your commented tag and revisit posts to see if there's been a response.

For this challenge I started to copy the post link into a word document by date and that way I remember where I've been and can check back later for a response.

I've been commenting 15-20 a day which is HUGE for me, my goal is 5, and I'm using BlogFrog discussions as well as a few #31DBBB blog hops.  Usually I probably leave 5 comments in a month.

Hopefully, after the challenge I'll find a happy medium.

I keep track by subscribing to the email option at the end of the comment. It shoots me an email when someone responds. I just read that. If there is more I want to contribute, I pop back in through the email link.

Thanks for all the input ladies!

I thought there was something you could comment with that kept the same profile for your comments and such, but maybe it was blog specific.

Don't want to hijack this thread - but it's along the same lines ( I think ) what's the difference between Reader and RSS please ?

I had never heard of the Reader until I joined this challenge.

Thanks

I'm fascinated by the bookmarklet thing. I need to go figure that out because I'm drowning in Reader and really need it to be sorted!

Thanks for the idea :)

I don't, unless I am REALLY interested in the follow up.

If someone uses disqus or email replies, I am more likely to follow up again.
