Blogging and Special Needs

Blog pic: (want one?)
We met each other because we each had babies diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA. One of the main purposes for our blog is to spread awareness of this so-called rare disease (the leading genetic cause of death for children under two!) and to share our experiences of life - and death - with SMA. We also share others' special stories and follow several closely.

Did you start blogging because of some sort of 'special' life assignment? If not, have you become hooked on any fellow bloggers' special circumstances?

I started blogging as a way to organize my thoughts and try to make contact with other mothers who have children with chronic illness.  My 6th and 7th children were born with a rare genetic disorder called Fatty Acid Oxidation Defect.

I had no idea at the time how big the blogging world is- nor did I realize how much I would enjoy writing.

I recently started a second blog dealing with how my large family copes with home schooling at The Flexible Home Schooler.
I started blogging as a way to keep family and friends up dated on our sons stroke recovery. Then it became therapy for me. Kristin I can totally relate on family members being uncomfortable. My MIL hardly acknowledges our son anymore and it's frustrating. I'd love to make some money off my blog since I dont' think I'll ever work outside the home again but it's a work in process.

I started blogging after my youngest child,. Makenzie suffered a serious brain injury after choking on a cracker when she was 18 months old.  It started as a way to keep family and friend up to date and has turned into a beautiful way to meet nad help moms in similar situations all over the world!

I started blogging both because I thought it would be cathartic, and because I wanted to reach out to moms of young kids with special needs. My little boy, like Erin's, suffered a stroke; he has cerebral palsy as a result. Those first couple of years with him were hell. I so wish that blogs were big in those days, because I sure could have used some blog friends. That's exactly what inspired me to start my blog.
