Does anyone here have a child with dysgraphia?  I have read that it is common among children on the autism spectrum.  I have a child on the spectrum and he also has dysgraphia.  It's proving to be very difficult for him to complete any type of writing assignments and we homeschool so I'm doing my best to help him.  My nephew has dysgraphia too and as a matter of fact I suspect my husband does as well.  Anyone here know much about it?  Tips?

I wish I could help! My son has some learning disorders but not dysgraphia.
If I remember from your blog your son is still fairly young... 6 or so?
We don't do much formal writing until they are 7 or 8. Before then, I have them dictate stories to me and draw pictures.
Even without learning disabilities my children don't do writing assignments until the 2nd grade.

We don't do any formal writing assignments yet either.  He's 6.  But we do some copywork (spelling words, etc.) and he struggles a lot.  Actually, both of my older boys have the same issues.  I think it stems from not having a dominant hand.

My son that is probably going to be diagnosed as autistic is still too young to know...

But, I do have a son that we think is dyslexic, although the schools refused to even test until he is 8 (he just turned 8 this summer). However, i am pulling him out to homeschool this year.

I am sure it's going to be a struggle, but hopefully I will be able to find a way to help.

Have you thought about contacting a local autistic association and see if there is anyone there that can give you pointers?

My son is dx FAS, Bipolar, ADHD with autistic behaviors and dysgraphia. I currently homeschool 2 boys and 1 attends public school (the one described above).

May I ask how old is your son? That will have much to do with what to expect of him and how to handle school work.

Do you have any support organizations available?
