importance of having friends.

What would you do....question.

I'm curious what y'all would do in this situation. My gut reaction was to want to send an email to my friend asking "why?", but I changed my mind. What should I do?
I have a local friend who I met through blogland. We have gotten together a few times, I really like her. She has an area on her blog where she lists the blogs of her friends/family...just a few are listed. I was on that list...and now I'm not. I think I've been deleted. Ouch. My husband thinks there is a logical explanation, but I feel dumped. Yet, she still emails and comments on my blog.
Would you send an email asking "why?". It's such a strange situation.

What do you think of long hair on boys? My youngest son's hair is very long for a boy. He is often referred to as a "she" and I quickly correct the person by saying "This is Joshua."
I don't think that the hair makes the person. I know a lot of people from older generations say it does, but I do NOT think that my son having long hair is going to make him a "sissy", as I have been told! I don't think it will make him Gay! Yes, I have also been told that! LOL
I simply think that long hair suits Joshua and it works for us. I am his parent and right now it is my decision. He is only 1, almost 2. When I ask him if he wants a haircut he says no. When he decides he wants it cut or when I decide to go with a different do then we will cut it, but for now it stays!
So what is your opinion?

Discipline - What Works for Your Child

We are getting to the point where Andrew is testing limits. When we say "no" he likes to see how much he can push. As a child, the rod was not spared in our house. I got my legs striped more than I can count and that form of discipline worked for me. We have been giving Andrew a few pops on his bottom or legs but we have reached a dilemma. I know this statement will make some people happy and say it confirms their point of view but Andrew has started slapping back at us. Whether its after we have corrected him or whether it's because he's experiencing something he doesn't like, he will slap. We have decided to put him in "time out," which for us has been his crib minus any of his soft blankets, his Roy bear or his Lovey. I'm not sure we have decided which is best for Andrew but he hasn't been slapping as much lately.
What form of discipline works/worked best in your house? If you have more than one child, do you use the same form of discipline with all kids or do you individualize the discipline (i.e. spankings for one but grounding for another)? Which parent is the disciplinarian? Any advice for other parents?

How do you feel when someone stops following you?
I actually took my followers widget off of my blog(for various reasons)but people are still able to follow me. I think it's fun when I get a new follower...I look at it as a new friend! Sounds weird, but I think of it as meeting someone new at a party or something. LOL. Anyway, I don't know all my followers very well, but I did notice that someone stopped following me. I have to admit, I thought to myself "awww, I wonder why?" I'm not going to take it personally(but I guess it is personal??), but I was curious as to how y'all felt when someone stops following you??

We had great food and conversation. After my post, several other bloggers voiced an interest in doing another get-together in the near future so they could be a part of the fun.
I have been approached about helping organize an event, which would be held sometime in October. There are ideas but no details have been discussed. The gathering would be held in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of NC but is open to anybody who is willing to travel.
A headcount is needed just to gauge interest in having an event like the one proposed and help organizing would also be needed. If you are interested, please reply to this discussion. Provide ideas (picnic, meeting at a restaurant, etc.) and the number of family members that would attend. This is quite a feat and not much time to plan so let's get it started.
If you would like to post about this idea, direct them back to this discussion so we can keep a headcount for reference. I hope it's okay if I share a little personal stuff about myself here, but I want to find out how I can make my life a little easier. For the last two months, when I get my period (that's the personal part) I have also acquired a horrible head cold. It sucks. My periods are awful too, so add on top of that a head that feels so full of junk, that I just want to put the vacuum cleaner hose up to my ear and turn it on full blast, hoping it sucks everything but my brain out! My eyes are itchy, my throat is scratchy, my nose won't stop running! My periods are terrible too, ever since having my tubes tied last summer and not being on the pill anymore. Man o Man. I just want to roll up in a ball and cry. It feels like I'm in labor again. Advil does the trick somewhat, but I'm keeping the pad industry easily afloat, with how many packages I buy!! Okay, so that's all really sucky, and you're probably wondering, What can WE do? This is what I need.......Wise words and advice on how you get your family, aka husband/kids and just whoever else may live with you and depend on your every word and move to survive in this oh-so-unfair world, to understand I FEEL LIKE CRAP. How do you get some much needed extra sleep, or unasked for help with chores, or meals that just magically appear? My kids are 15, 10 and 19 months. When I am sick, they just can't function! I'll give my husband a little credit, he tries....sort of. But I just want a day!!! A day to just stay in bed; with NOOO knocks on the door asking Where's my other sock?? Anyway, I hope you can help. It's a weird coincidence that I have a headcold two months in a row on top of Aunt Flo visiting, but she's already a big pain, all by herself! I just want advice on how you get your family to be more helpful and sensitive when you are sick....I just told you about my period because I felt like whining. Thank you for letting me and for not asking me if I want some cheese to go along with it. I'll be here, watching through itchy watery eyes, and refreshing inbetween sneezes.....Hurry!

How did you celebrate a milestone birthday?

For my husband's 30th birthday, I threw him a little party at home. His birthday fell on a weekday so our neighbors at the time (M & S featured in two posts this week) celebrated with us before a viewing of Survivor. I also put a sign in the front yard right off the street with black balloons that said "Dwight Kelly: Guilty of Turning 30!!" All the neighbors got to enjoy the sign and even mentioned it to him a few times.
What simple ideas do you have? I am hoping we get to either take a trip to NYC in the fall or a cruise in the spring to celebrate but what ideas can you provide for my husband? Share what you have done in the past for someone you love, a friend or what someone did for you. I'm going to make sure he reads this discussion and then he can choose. BTW, my birthday is on Tuesday this year. Weekday ideas would be great but weekend ideas will work too.

Thoughts on Following and Followers

This question was posed to me by a fellow blogger. I have 44 followers as of now but I think I probably follow more than that. I find that I am falling behind on reading those I follow. The question is:
1) Do you automatically follow each person who follows you just out of courtesy?
2) Do you only follow those that follow you?
3) Do you only follow and read those who are a loyal reader on your blog?
All of this applies to Twitter as well since a lot of us use that tool also. The other questions are:
4) Do you read based on your Dashboard updates, your BlogRoll as it updates or do you use Google Reader?

Let's introduce ourselves!

Hi Everyone!
