I love it! I just started my own community and have a few members. One person posted, "HI" for a discussion on my group this morning and it got me thinking...I remember kids on the playground growing up that were very good at introducing themselves and making new friends. I love that quality in people and thought I would try it on Blog Frog! I am a very social person, but am not great at putting myself out there to say the first "Hi". It's not because I am nervous or don't want to, I am usually just so busy taking care of my kids or running errands. Even in church I will see people over and over again without seeking them out to say hi. If they are sitting by me I do but there are people in my church that I don't even know their name and I have been going to the same ward for almost 6 years! If I do get the time to ask their name, there is a pretty high chance I will forget. How do you meet new friends? How do you remember their name so you don't feel bad later when you see them and you realize you have forgotten?

Wedding Dress

Wedding dress prices have a huge range! All of his daycares have been home ones. The one he is currently at is wonderful, the kids are all around his age, and has a "learning" environment, etc... I really like him going there. However, lately, he has NOT wanted to go. I give him ample notice (since our work schedules change every week), and he does okay until we are on the way. As I turn onto her street he asks "is Ms. L going to be there?" If I say yes, or he sees Ms. L (the helper) before Ms. D (the provider), he breaks down. If it is just Ms. D, then he is fine. I don't want to switch daycares again, especially as it is VERY hard to find one that I like that does hours that we need for a reasonable price. But, I'm tired of pulling myself away from a clinging THREE year old just because of that. I even asked why he doesn't like Ms. L and he says its "because she makes me lay down..." They BOTH make all the kids lay down, if they don't go to sleep that's fine, but they have to rest. I don't get it, and would greatly appreciate any advice. Sorry if this doesn't make sense, feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks!!

Blogging Cliques

When I started blogging I made a couple friends...they were my first "blog friends" and I still have a really great relationship with them. We email, we joke, we tease, etc.
If I were to go to a blogging event and they were there I would sit next to them because I'd feel most comfortable with them.
Lately I've been hearing some talk about cliques in blogland and I'm baffled. How can there be cliques inside my computer? How can there be cliques when we're all adults and clearly too old for that kind of thing? I never noticed any of it.
Question: What is your experience with cliques in blogland? Are they there? And crap...am I IN one because I'm friends with those girls from long ago? What makes a clique a clique?

A Bird Question...

Ugh.
I let my kids and husband talk me into getting a budgie. This is amazing because I.hate.birds. They are creepy with a capital P.
What could I do? They gave me "the eyes". You know... the eyes. I couldn't say no because I am officially The Biggest Pushover Ever.
My question is this... is it true that I have to let the darn thing fly loose around my house for exercise?? Or are they just teasing me?
Help me.

After 20 minutes on the tread mill I slowed down to a steady walk and literally almost fell off the machine. I stumbled, but caught myself and chuckled a little at what a fool I had just made of myself.
Two minutes later I was walking down the stairs and AGAIN tripped up and AGAIN made a fool of myself, only this time I really think I sprained my cotton pickin ankle!!
I'm such a dork.
And I'm so embarassed...I wish I'd had a friend there to laugh at me like a good friend would.
Do share! Some free stuff. It's why contests are so great. I won that pink polk a dotted custom design you see on my blog. I also won a 50 dollar Target gift card. And I didn't have to do anything. Just entered a comment and wa la.
Contests come with a plethora of requirements. Usually leaving a comment will always gain you an entry. The person holding the giveaway might also ask you to go to the sponsors site and take a look around for another entry. After that following the blog in your RSS feed or on blogger or on Twitter or posting about the contest will ALL gain you more entries.
Question: How do you feel about all of the entry suggestions? Does it bug you that people use contests to increase their readership? What determines the effort you will put in to gain entries?

To Read Or Not To Read

Right now I'm reading The Memory Keeper's Daughter and so far LOVE it.

A woman has twins. Her husband delivers. One twin has a birth defect he send her away with the nurse to bring to a home and tells his wife the baby didn't make it. The nurse decides to keep the baby and start a new life in a new town and that's as far as I've gotten. Very exciting.

You know what I'm getting at don't you?
I wrote about religion on the blog. I knew I risked losing all my agnostic pagan readers by choosing to write about my 'God Moment'. (kidding! kind of).
In the same breath I have written posts filled with cuss words about men with no arms, race, and drug use...sure to lose my Christian readers.
How in the hell do I have any readers left??
What have you written about that caused you to fear a negative response from your readers? Or what do you wish you COULD write about without fearing a negative response from your readers?

Blog Friends

I met Summer from Le Musings of Moi not too long ago (read about our date here)...

I know there's a reason for them...but I can't help but feel a little shafted when I get them.

I couldn't go to a close cousin's wedding yesterday because Pat was in a class all day and I didn't have a babysitter. He asked me later if I was annoyed and I was all "no. not really...it's like getting an invite that says if you have ten fingers you can't come. Well. I guess I'm out then because I definitely have ten fingers."
I guess I'm just a little disappointed...her wedding was in a really small intimate venue so it probably would not have been fun for my kids, but still...I would have liked to have been at her there.
How do YOU feel about childless weddings? Any stories to share?

First Impressions

On The Blog this weekend I talked about meeting Pat's family for the first time and how I wanted them to think I was nice so I tried really hard to smile a lot. Even though I'm not naturally a big smiler. I'm a thinker. One of those thinkers that always looks like they're mad about something.
When I realized how goofy I looked with my fake smile I couldn't help but laugh at myself. Serves me right to look so silly for trying to be something I'm not.

Things like, how to get comments sent to your email, how to create a link that opens in a window rather than take people away from your page entirely, how to copy the screen on your computer and display it as a picture on your blog, and explanations of things like Technorati and Alexa...so my question is:

We took him in for allergy tests months ago that said he had low allergies to gluten and almonds. I took him off that stuff and his skin is STIILL awful. Maybe worse than it was before. His legs are bright red and agitated, always in midst of an excema outbreak and scabbed over from all of his scratching.
We continue to use steroid cream and aquafor and baking soda baths, but I'm frustrated...there has to be a better solution. And what's the point of keeping him off gluten if it's not making him better??
