Share your organizing tips, links to favorite organizing sites, and share why you are trying to live a clutter free life. You can even share your clutter horror story if you have one. I am sure I have a few I can share later this week!

Perhaps the greatest tip I have found (which I know I have read about on this blog as well) is the use of Binders. I was so liberated getting rid of the heaps of chaos that came to live in my filing cabinet.  While I have in no way perfected the system. It has made a huge difference in my life.

I currently have 4 binders. 1 deals with the home- rental contracts, all utility, tax ect. 1 deals with husband documents- pay stubs, training certificate ect. 1. Deals with my documents. And the last is joint with health insurance, car papers, bill stubs ect.

My next step is to go through and decide how long I actually need to keep documents in them before tossing them through the shredder.

But I do recommend it. Flipping through a organized binder ( I do mine by date oldest to newest) is so much simpler than stacks of paper or crammed filing cabinets. I am now able to find anything within a few minutes time. I remember frantically searching before.

Serena-
I love my binders. They really make filing so much easier. They will be really easy to move as well! No papers flying everywhere out of file folders, everything contained nice and neat in a binder!

My toy room was driving me crazy (anyone relate??) and so I came up with a system that made it easy for my kiddos (ages 5 and 2)  to clean and organize their toys.  I bought a whole bunch of clear plastic bins. I then went online and printed pictures of their toys. (Little People, Barbies, My Little Ponies, hotwheels cars, etc). I taped the pictures to the sides of the boxes so there is no mistaking what goes in which box. (I also left a few boxes blank so we would have a place to throw miscelaneous stuff). I love this b/c even my two year old understands where to put his toys when he is done playing.  This system also makes it easy for them to play with one thing at a time, as everything is grouped together.

Hi everyone,I am fairly new to the board and to the Happy Housewife blog as well. I wanted to stick my nose in here for a minute and share one thing that works well for me with my daughters room.

My dear daughter is not a naturally organized person (takes it from her momma),her room has been a total disaster more times that I can count. I can still hear the echo of my mothers words coming out of my mouth when speaking to my daughter about it. "If you only clean as you go then your room wouldn't look like this"  Funny how things like that happen!

Finally out of frustration hubby and I were looking in the organizing dept. at Lowes and I seen this thing. It was like a rack with 4 levels and plastics bins that fit on each level. I was like OH YEAH SO COOL! and showed hubby. He agreed!

And to boot they came in PINK! Presto! They are so neat, you can label each bin or for younger children take a picture of what goes in each bin so they know what goes where. When she wants to play with something or get art supplies or what not she can go to the bin that is for that item(s) play with them and put them back when finished. Or at least that's the idea, she's still resistant to picking up and putting the bins back but with a bit of urging from me she does it.

I am constantly clearing clutter in our large family.  I have one daughter who does not want to get rid of anything.  The way for me to help her, is to box not needed items and just put it up in the attic for several months.  After that time, she will not need it and will let me pitch/donate it.
After my intense declutter mission this summer, I keep a large box in our guest room which I am constantly putting things into that we do not use any longer for donations. We generally get calls 2-3x a month for a charity to come by and pick it up for us.

Everyone in the family know that's where to put  outgrown clothes or toys that are no longer being used or just stuff that's in their/our rooms.  When that box is picked up, I immediately get another on my next trip to Sam's.
