Let's have some fun. Although I don't recall her quite giving out the due date, she's made it clear her time is imminent. How do they say it in the Bible? "She knew her time was near," or something like that. Poor thing's wearing maternity clothes she never thought she'd wear again (according to Facebook) and she's celebrating til her birthday week's over or the baby comes, whichever is first. So, how shall we do this? First person to come closest to date and time of birth, and the gender of the baby will be the winner! (No, I am not going near the name...I cannot even begin to guess on that one!) What is the prize, you'll want to know? Well, the best I can offer is your very own Atlantic Beachlife tee shirt! Oh, yes, they are very cool. You can see them on my blog (in fact, it's the blog's logo, emblazoned onto a tee shirt in white or gray (fitted) or white/gray/sand (looser). This is totally disorganized as I don't have the pictures of the shirts properly on my sidebar yet but I wanted to put this contest out there before she has the baby. If you want to see a picture of the last tee shirt winner, Tami, I wrote about it here . Our own Sammi from the U.K. even bought one in white and just sent me a very cute picture of her in it but I haven't put it up there yet (sorry, Sammi! I'll be happy to get the winner the color and size and fit that you want. So: let the guessing begin! Rules: People with "inside information" have a moral obligation to disqualify themselves from the game. :-)

Medical Scare on Sunday

We had a medical scare on Sunday with our two-year old. Everything
seems to be a little better now, but we are waiting for a referral to a

She completely caught me off guard, but we had quite a talk about what she wants and doesn't want. One of my sisters called in the middle and Mom told her what we were doing and she began offering up her own suggestions/demands totally oblivious to what Mom had just told her.
Has anyone been in this position? I am all for letting Mom plan it herself and then we carry out her wishes. Her wish is to have the service on one of my son's boats, with all the family, and scattered the ashes (my son is an official ship captain and can scattered ashes at sea.) She wants us to do both her and my dad's at the same time. Mom lives with us, so this will all be here in Seattle with everyone coming here.
Mom is 91 and talks frequently about being ready for the Lord to take her home.

Only a few hours left in this week's Men's Monday Meme Hot Topic Question

There are actually two questions that you could have answered this week. Is that confusing? I don't know what triggered it (divine intervention?) but he suddenly felt deep regret for the time he has lost to video games in his very short ten years. He remembered countless activities that he had refused to take part in because he just HAD to finish 'one more level.' (these aren't violent games--almost all rated E--Zelda, Lego Star Wars etc.). He sobbed with sorrow for all the 'other kids out there that are trapped by video games.' I cried with him with pain of my own mothering failure. I don't think I realized that his video game playing was a compulsion and not just a fun pass time. (games are now packed away for everyone)Has anyone ever faced a problem like this? What can I do to help him re-discover joy in other activities? How do I ease withdrawal pains? I would love suggestions for after school activities that don't involve any electronics. Thanks!

A book CJane mentioned

I've been searching in all 3 of cjane's blogs but couldn't find the post she mentioned a book I would like to buy. I've been much more in what LDS Churh implies since starting reading CJane and NieNie blogs along with some others mormons blogs. There are some things I would like to know. My question is why mormons do not drink alcohol, coffe, not smoke, don't do drugs... I mean, of course some of those things are but for your health (smoking, drugs), so it's better not to do it. But since, I'm a medical student, some of them are proved to be good in the appropiate amount (such as coffe which protects from some type of gastric cancer and red wine (just one glass a day) which protects from coronary issues). I mean, why do not give up to each individual to choose what they prefer to do? Which is the reason they say it's not good? Hope to hear your answer! P.S: I don't have the intention to judge anything, I just curious of the reason. I hope I have explained it properly (I'm not an English speaker).

I need help - business coach

I think I need a business coach; someone to help me formulate my idea, establish some goals and set objectives to help me get there. I don't need someone 'high end'...but I've read on others' successful blogs about their use of a business coach and so I'm thinking...how can I find someone to coach me? It write a blog that's sort of a niche thing. I want to keep it entertaining for people who don't live here, yet I'd like to grow it more, locally. It seems like no one around here really reads blogs - which is great for me because then mine can be the blog for our area. I want to pitch it to local businesses, or, pitch my services to them, to help establish or maintain their online presence. But anyway, I'd talk all that over with a business coach I suppose. I don't have a lot of money (as in, really, none, but I could scrounge something together if I met the right person, I think) and I don't want to ask Twitter about one. Can you imagine the "business coaches" who'd come crawling out of the woodwork? So to you I come. Does anyone have any advice for me? My blog's good (I think) and I know I can use it to launch my services into our local community. I always wonder: is it interesting to those who don't live here, though? Because I don't want it to be so niche that other people aren't entertained, you know? I do have some regulars who leave nice comments, and I know I'm guilty of not being a very good commenter on others' blogs myself. Well anyway, the business coach. I want to hear your thoughts on how I find one...or if I should...I need some advice.

How do you control yourself?

Lately I have read about a number of cases where child care providers and mothers have lost their tempers, become angry or frustrated, and harmed children. It has also been the topic of many "sessions" I have had with mothers lately. It seems that more and more, mothers are struggling to stay under control. I am, and always have been interested in (but also very nervous about my interest in) Mormonism. We all know the ugly, hurtful stereotypes of Mormons, and there is no need to repeat them here. But my nervousness comes from the fact that, basically, most Christians I know do not consider Mormonism a Christian faith.
But...so many Mormons I know seem honestly convicted of their faith. The community seems very supportive (this recent blog post about the bishops and another post Cjane wrote about people who stop by your house every couple weeks for a Bible study are true examples of that). I have come across so many Mormom blogs--Cjane, Nienie, Progressive Pioneer--written by women who I agree with on so many topics. It makes me curious about their faith. Maybe I would agree with them there, too?
Anyone want to fill me in on some basic beliefs? I have considered getting a copy of the book of Mormon, if nothing else but to learn about it.

Any Wannabe Moms Out There?

Hey ladies, I've yet to enter into the realm of motherhood and am trying to figure out as much as I can before I do. Have you ever wondered what they are saying to you?
Lifestyle therapist Susan Leigh shares some insight on the meaning of
dreams in this very interesting article on Healthy Moms.

I want to know what you like most about your very own body. What's your favorite part? I'll go first. I like my hair the best. It's truly the best. Sure, sometimes it's like Big Hair, and if I had a stylist, then he/she could blow it into submission but my hair is really wonderful and I can wear it up and it still looks great. Plus, I've discovered the joys of Sally Beauty's "less expensive" shampoos and the effect they are having on my mane. No longer will I spend $18.99 on a bottle of shampoo...these two Sally shampoos and conditioners leave my hair shiny and bouncy and clean for days. I have long hair, layered and colored and cut by the best. But I style it myself and I use Sally's, and that's me. Someone today said, when they saw me, "Hello, hair," and I thought, "Uh oh. It's Big Hair again. And because it was clean and down and styled (by me) and I saw it in a picture, I knew it was indeed, preceding me into the room, so I knotted it up and then I was wearing it rather than it wearing me. I feel fortunate to have my hair when I see so many others with difficult hair, and I'm glad that I can feel glad about this. Because, lawdy knows, I've got plenty of complaints 'bout other things.

Faking It

I did it again. Even thought I swore I wouldn't.
I mean, really, how degrading.
But alone time is hard to come by in my house, so I made an exception today.
I pretended I was going to the bathroom so I could have a few moments alone.
Literally, sat on the toilet with the door locked, browsing through an outdated magazine and listened (shamefully guilt-free) to my kids screaming my name outside with little fingers smuggling under the crack of the door in a desperate attempt to somehow connect to the woman inside.
Of course, the 'guilt-free' didn't last all that long because, after just a few minutes, out I came.
How do you find moments of solitude in a day full of toddlers, tiaras (but not pagents), trains and tantrums?
Calgon, take me away.

Another Freebie

I have some super cute Lunch Box Notes freebies on my blog. Now, I don't know the situation with this particular child, but it got me wondering what sort of parameters are in place when you are homeschooling a child. Does anyone do homeschool? Does anyone have an idea of parameters or guidelines that parents are required to follow? And lastly, what do you think of homeschooling, both pros and cons?

A bit too much?

So up until about three weeks ago I was "nanny" to three wonderful kiddos. At the beginning of the year I asked to work less hours so that I could focus more on finishing school and my own family. They decided to let me go and find a new nanny who could work full time. I was pretty sad but I understood. Well, last weekend the kids' dad called me in a panic and asked if I could watch the kids once in a while because they had to fire the new girl. Apparently the mom had a bad feeling about leaving the kids with the new nanny one morning, so she called her husband and asked if he would mind stopping by the house just to make sure everything was ok. When he got their the nanny was out cold on the couch and the 2-yr. old was running around the house by himself. He called her name several times before she woke up. When I stopped by to pick up the girl scout cookies I ordered from them this week, the 7 yr. old blurted out that her parents called the police on the nanny. Then the mom explained that she felt it was child neglect but the police couldn't do anything because the little boy wasn't harmed. I can't stop thinking about the fact that they called the police! I can certainly understand firing the girl, but trying to press charges?? That seems a little extreme to me. Even though I worked for them for a long time, I would feel nervous going back knowing how they handled this situation. What do you think? Crazy or reasonable?

Mindy Gledhill's Small Enough

I am not much of a sentimentalist. My heart can be really picky and my tear ducts follow. That being said, Mindy Gledhill's version of Small Enough gets me bawling in a fetal position almost every time I hear it. Plus, she sings it with her brother-in-law Dustin who occupies little corner of my stiff heart (we spent time as missionaries together in Quebec).Today I found that someone had put her song to a youtube video. I haven't watched the entire movie, but it is worth hearing the song. Are you in the fetal position already? You will be.
