China – Rich History and Wonders Galore

China, the country that nests one of the ancient civilizations of the world has a number of marvels rolled up in its sleeve. Various manmade and natural wonders, diverse geographical terrains, exotic fauna and flora, pristine beaches, meandering rivers, places where history dwells, rich culture and heritage – attractions China keep in its chest for a curious visitor is numerous.

Forbidden city is located in the middle of Beijing and now houses the Palace Museum. This complex of about thousand buildings is an example of traditional Chinese palatial architecture. Forbidden city is declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Besides Great Wall and Forbidden City there are many more attractions in the capital city, Beijing. The centre of the city and most important landmark is Tiananmen square which is the largest public square of the world. The square is surrounded by grand buildings including the Great hall of the people, museum of Chinese History, Museum of Chinese Revolution, Qianmen gate and Forbidden city.  Then there is the National stadium, the victory sign of Beijing Olympics. Other landmarks are Imperial Ancestral Temple and Temple of Heaven which along with Tiananmen square and Forbidden city exemplifies traditional architecture of imperial China. There are specimens of modern architecture also in Beijing.  There are parks scattered around Beijing, better among them being Zhongshan park, Beihai park, Chaoyang park and Ritan park. The Beijing Zoo is famous for its landscaping in traditional way and houses giant Pandas.

The other important city in China is Shanghai. It is located in the Yangtze river delta in eastern China in the middle portion of Chinese coast. Described as the “showpiece” of booming economy of mainland China, Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yuyuan Garden. Shanghai has a rich collection of buildings and structures of various architectural styles.

Some of other more important destinations of China Tourism are Hainan, Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve, Leshan, Mount Everest, Mount Tai, Tibet, Turpa and Yungang Grottoes.
