"Kids say the darndest things"

Started by Molly , author of The Snyder 5 12/16/2010 10:20:52 AM

As I wrote about today, Noah's story book in school managed me definitely make me blush.  Would love to hear other hilarious things that your kids, or those you know, have said that maybe didn't come out the way you would have hoped...

When Griffin was 4 he really wanted a baby brother. He said something to me about why we couldn't just go to Target to get one, and I very gently explained that you don't buy babies at Target, and that because there wasn't a nice man in my life, being able to have a baby brother wasn't really going to happen anytime soon. I left out all the details of why I needed a nice man for that purpose.

Then later that year, we were at my brothers house for a small gathering with his friends and some family members and I was talking to one of my brothers friends, a man I've known since I was a little girl. Griffin came up and joined in the conversation, then point blank said to the guy "Do you know any nice men, because I really want a baby brother and my Mom needs a nice man so she can get me one."

Thankfully, that man, who happened to be one of the nicest guys I've ever known AND who was aware of my situation, understood the question better than anyone, and replied to Griffin "When I find one, I'll be sure to send them your way."

Still.... I was so embarrassed I wanted to crawl inside a cupboard. He was wise enough not to broadcast that exchange either.

Nothing beats having your kid go baby daddy shopping for you.  That is hilarious.

My 10 year-old: "Why do girls walk around in clumps?"

My friend leaned in and whispered in my ear, "because we have magnets in our boobs."

He would have thought that was cool.

Ha!  And an even smarter friend.  My kids would have screamed "GROOSSSS!" to that.  And probably believed it.

This was more about what happened than what was said, but it was public, humiliating, and very funny!

My daughter's Christmas concert.

By the way...I read your story and laughed out loud!  Another time my 4 year old was asked, on camera, what she wanted to be when she grew up and she very enthusiastically replied, "A Daddy!"  This was for the preschool graduation video!

Oh my.  What a story, I loved it (and wished I had been there...)

A few days ago I kind of overreacted to something my kids had done, and had to apologise for being a little unkind.  My youngest (3) said to me "Its ok Mum, you can't help it if you're mean.  We still love you"
