Do you like where you live?

Started by Amy, author of The Shaffer Spot 2/8/2010 12:59:04 PM
The thread about small towns got me to thinking. Do you like where you live?

I live in a suburb on Nashville. It is a safe place to live and we love our home. The only thing I don't like is the people here can be snobby. There is a lot of money in this area and some people have that "too good" attitude.

Before we lived here we lived near Memphis. It was a small town and had its own charm. But Memphis is not very safe, so we moved to Nashville.

So what about you?

I just moved to my current location. It is really just a suburb that is built around an airforce base. There is no downtown area or any kind of historical, cute section in town where you can walk around. Other than that, though, it's very safe, very convenient, and has a great school system, so I really can't complain!

Yes, I love where I live (anchorage). The ability to drive no more than 10 minutes and be in the middle of nowhere is amazing to me, and I love being surrounded by mountains. I just think everything is so beautiful (OK, maybe not during break-up in the spring, but the rest of the time I'm entranced!) and I love having seasons (moved from San Diego - which I also loved, but seasons are so new to me that I'm really enjoying them!) and Anchorage seems safer to me than California was (quieter at the very least!)

Ok, this may be over-emotional, but I truly thank God for where we live...It is such a WONDERFUL place to raise children!  Everyone is so kind and loving...I will never to back to suburbia...and we lived in a really nice area.

Nope. We live in a small town (5,000) with the nearest city being over 45 miles away. There is nothing to do here with children...no mom groups, no places to go in the middle of winter. It is terrible and we hope to move within the next several years to someplace that has more opputunities.

There are some things I love about Whoville, and some things I really hate!

I love our little uni-plex theater, our Wal-Mart is always clean and never crowded.  My kids can ride their bikes anywhere in town.  Our mail person stops to chat and keeps lolipops in her truck.

I hate that several of our neighbors are unfriendly because we didn't grow up here, everyone minds everyone else's buisness, dogs wander loose and poo in my yard, and bark at my kids.  That the pool closes when school starts, even if it's August and 110*,  That the librarians frown at kids in the building durring school hours.

I hate the thought of moving away, yet dream of leaving.

My Florida home has just been declared to be in a cancer cluster.  We have no idea where this will lead us.  We also have two homes up in the Cape where I spend my summers.  I love the Cape, just not the winters, UGH!

We just moved from Dallas to Memphis about four months ago.  I miss Dallas terribly and I hate the crime rate in Memphis (we're basically in one of the suburbs though - and it's a lot safer than the metro area).  But for the msot part I don't mind it.  There's a lot of culture here that I love being able to expose my children to.  We're closer to my family in central Arkansas so that's a plus too.  Oh, and we live in the most wonderful neighborhood. My neighbors are awesome!

I grew up in a Military family.  We moved every 4-6 years.  I learned to love where I live because chances are you will miss something about it when you leave.  I try to find that thing I would miss and enjoy it while I'm there.  We have put down some roots now in Texas.  It's a little overcrowded for me but there is a ton of stuff to do and the people are amazing!

I live in Ewa Beach, Hawaii (my husband is a Marine MP stationed out of NS Pearl Harbor), so yeah, I love where I live. Hawaii is amazing. I highly recommend it.
