wow that is almost unbelievable. I have never heard of something like that before. I'm sure the surrogate signed a bunch of papers in the beginning thinking well that will never happen.....and now she has no "legal rights" to make decisions. It's sad the kind of world we have created for ourselves.....

It probably is in the papers that the fetus or fetuses are to be reduced at the natural parents' bequest. That is standard in many such contracts. This whole surrogacy thing is fraught with legal and moral landmines and ANYONE going into such situations should be well aware of what most of them are. This is a basic one and I am surprised that her agency and group did not go over this with her specifically since there are many staunch right to lifers who are in the surrogacy situation. It is usual crystal clear in both directions as to who can call the shots about aborting and/or treating the fetus.

This blog writer is actually a friend of my friend and she says she is living in hell right now. I can't understand why the birth parents wouldn't allow an adoption of the second baby.

Sending prayers for all involved. What a sad situation. I can't imagine what she must be going through right now.

I know they can legally say she must reduce but can they really force her to undergo the procedure?

I'm with Michele. I'd run and hide until it was too late to do the procedure. Then they can decide if they want to keep the "extra" or give it to someone else who longs for a baby, just like they did!

I learned a long time ago NEVER to assume what I would do in someone else's shoes. I'm sure there are MANY reasons she can't just "run". I hurt for her and just keep praying for a change of heart.
