Every time a holiday comes up: Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, I start feeling sick to my stomach, anxious, and nervous! My husband and I haven't figured out a way to split holidays with our family that makes sense so we end up arguing with each other and/or our families and are miserable! My parents are divorced so we have to go to 3 places. Most of the time one or both of my parents are flexible and we do the Saturday before or another time, but his family is never flexible about the day (usually about the time of the day) but they always have their get-togethers the day of the holiday because that's what they've always done and they've never had a reason to change it. I don't want to sound like I'm ranting about the ILs (although I kind of am), but it's frustrating. I'd rather not go to two or three different places in one day, especially now that we have a child. But I also don't want to spend the day of every holiday with his family. I try to tell everyone (including myself) it's not necessarily about the day, but more about just spending time w/e.o. on the holidays, but you know...every once in a while, I'd like to spend the holiday with my family, too. Argh!I'd like to come up with some sort of system where we just put our foot down and say, "We're going to Thanksgiving at ______'s house this year, we'd be happy to celebrate Thanksgiving with you another time." However, my DH is very leery about that. He said last night, "Well, we'd have to spend Christmas Eve w/my family." My thought was that we rotate every year so each family gets a holiday and the next year they get a different one. So we wouldn't necessarily spend every Christmas Eve with his family. That doesn't mean that our families can't keep going on with their celebrations, we'll just celebrate another time with them. These discussions are so hard because I always end up feeling guilty about making a decision (it doesn't help that my mom is single and says when we're not with her she's alone for her holidays even though I've tried to invite her to come along with us to the other places) and uncomfortable and I'd rather just go on vacation and not do holidays at all. What do you do to split your holidays? Do you have any advice? Sorry about the rant, we just had a long discussion about it last night and it's still on my mind. Help!!!!

Does anyone have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)?

Many of you may already know that my 22 year old daughter suffers from debilitating crohn's disease. This disease is wrecking havoc on her young body and mind (my heart hurts so badly watching this.) This disease and secondary complications have been relentless! She has been ill since the age of 14 and has only had 6 months of remission. Although Crohn's is a chronic and long-term disease and very painful during flare-ups they are usually followed by remissions that last for varying periods of time, this has not been the case for her. It never ends! Her foot, ankle, calf have been bothering her for 3 weeks now, she can barely walk and is in excruciating pain. Ultrasound and x-ray are clear. Now we are set up for a bone scan and mri. The Dr wants her to see a neurologist and mentioned possible RSD. Dear Lord this child has enough on her plate, don't ya think? I'm getting really worried about her failing health. Thanks for listening.

If you have ever come across this how to you stop the cat ? This is someones house cat but it still worries me..at elast its not a stray though LOL

I adore him. Anyway, he is sitting at the airport this morning, Tweeting his musings. He sent this Tweet- Guys are often told their minds are in the gutter. Maybe it's because that's where alot of women go to buy their clothes. Now, let me start by saying that the phrase "asking for it" is one I abhorr when it comes to women and their behavior. I am not going there. But doesn't he have a point? Not all of us dress in "gutter clothes" of course, but many of us do dress to accent our, er assets. I don't care to go around in sensible shoes, mom jeans and turtlenecks. Nor do I dress provocatively. How do you dress? Why do you dress the way you do? Do you dress for your man, and if so do you worry about how you look to other men? Do you have anything that has Juicy across your butt, lol? When talking to my DH about this, he mentioned girls who have stuff written on their butts. And do we wear clothes that we think others might find flattering, then complain when guys eye us in ways we don't care for. (Assuming they do, personally I don't think I have been "eyed" in a while) Do we expect too much?

Raising Awareness

Do you or your child have a medical condition you'd like to raise awareness for? I think I am finally going to break down and pay someone. I am tired of messing with my blog trying to get it the way I want it to look, only to end up being disappointed. I just took out my earrings and they stink! I don't even really know how to describe it. My ears don't hurt, they aren't infected, they aren't swollen and weren't red until I started messing with them. What on earth?! I don't really clean them every time I use them but I have been doing this the same way for years and never had this problem before. I don't leave them in at night or anything extreme so I can't figure this out. Maybe I will start cleaning them every day and see what happens. Anyone have this happen before? What did you do?

Do you run your dryer at night or when leaving the house?

Our dryer caught on fire a few weeks ago. I was home and smelled the smoke, but still called the fire department because of all the smoke. I wanted to be sure the fire was out. It turns out that there is A LOT I didn't know about how common these fires are and how easily they are prevented or at least reduced in the risk of burning your house down, or worse, family members dying from the fire. I am now taking precautions and being more sensible about using my dryer. I put it all together here:
http://mychildsview.blogspot.com/2010/03/dryer-safety-works-for-me-wednesday.html
Seriously, if it can help you or someone you love - even someone you don't love - spread the word. This is serious and even the smallest fire can grow beyond control within seconds. It's a big deal. I know we, as moms, are tight on time and tend to start the dryer and run errands or start the dryer and go to bed. Don't do it. The results can be devastating!

How do you handle multiple blogs?

Are there other moms on here who have multiple blogs? participate in sports activities (baseball, soccer, karate, ballet
etc.)? My son is 5, he has just finished soccer and we have been super
happy with this experience being his first team sport! But...this week
he started baseball, I am already having a uneasy feeling about it.
Don't get me wrong I love baseball and so does my son, but it seems as
if the schedule is going to be really hectic...Practice twice a week
and games possibly twice a week...WHAT??!! Is is just me or is this a
little extreme? Soccer was great because it was very laid back and age appropriate. Remember these children are only 5. What are your children involved with...what is too much? Opinions please!

Did you keep your wedding dress?

I have been married for almost 3 years and kept my wedding dress. BUT, if we didn't buy Honda, we'd probably buy Toyota. But I'm kinda on the fence now about how I feel on Toyotas. Granted, any car manufacturer can have recalls. And most of them have had some sort of recall in the past. But I'm not crazy about how Toyota is handling them. Do you think their response time was too slow? The testimonies of all the bloggers in Kenya are having a powerful impact as God uses them to soften readers hearts. He is so amazing! Many people have sponsored a child or children and His legacy from this week will snowball.
My challenge is WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW? Sponsoring is a wonderful thing! It is incredible how God can use the internet, blogging, etc., to spread His word and move hearts for His glory. The checks sent to Compassion will, for many... not all, just become part of their monthly bills. Some who have had their heart softened will go back to their own life and just get back into the groove... so to speak.
There are people hurting everywhere and I would bet that there is someone in need living right under our noses. Someone who could benefit from the hearts that have been softened. There are homeless people who need a meal, a place to lay their head or some small item that would make a tremondous difference in their life. There are the sick and the elderly who are alone and lonely. A gentle touch, a kind word, a friend, would go so far to make a difference in their lives.
But it isn't just us... how are we going to involve our children in serving God through serving His least? How can we make them aware of needs and mold a compassionate heart?
I'd really love to hear responses. :-)

Reece's Rainbow

Hi everyone! Did you know that children with special needs (i.e. spina bifida, Down Syndrome, etc.) that are place for adoption in Russia are put into an insane asylum at age 4 if they aren't adopted? A blog buddy of mine is currently in the process of adopting two sweet angels from the Ukraine through Reece's Rainbow. They are hard at work trying to raise the funds to bring the girls home to their wonderful family! If you have a minute, check out her adoption blog ( http://www.snadoption.blogspot.com ) and if you feel so inclined to donate, it would be highly appreciated. Also, if you feel inclined to spread the word (even if you can't donate) that would be appreciated as well!

Number Two

We started potty training our two-year-old about 6 weeks ago and he's been a rock star when it comes to peeing on the potty. Nearly from the outset he was telling us when he had to "bee" and has had very few pee accidents. However, he WILL NOT poop on the potty. He doesn't even try. He just poops in his underpants and then cries because he doesn't like how it feels and doesn't want to walk to the bathroom to get cleaned up.
Is this a developmental issue or defiance? Maybe it's the frustration, but it feels so much like defiance because he doesn't even try to make it to the bathroom. Has anyone else gone through this? Any suggestions on how we can get him to poop on the potty?
BTW - we've gone down the route of a special reward for pooping on the potty and the PlayDoh Ice Cream Shop has been sitting out for nearly two weeks - ugh!

Quiet Time

Maybe this has been discussed here before, but I'm fairly new so I'll ask (again?):

My youngest turns 2 next month. He hasn't shown much interest in potty training apart from sometimes telling us when he needs a new "biper." To be honest it has been far from my mind. Anyway, he was standing in the bathroom watching his brother pee the other night. He watched and said "Wowwww." Followed by "Flush, flush!" So perhaps he is showing more interest in doing this himself now. The fact that he thought to flush is more than his older siblings usually do when they use the potty.

Jump Rope For Heart

My 9 year old, Destiny, is taking part in a fund-raiser for the American Heart Association. okay all this to say we are trying to decide if we want to replace the batteries or if we want to just unplug the whole thing or call and get it activated. i do not know how much this one would charge but if we go with ADT it is only about $25 a month. A while ago I changed the title of my blog and it still shows the old title when I comment on posts today. Does anyone have a clue how to change that? I have been through the edit profile and there is no place to change it. My blog URL didn't change - just my blog title. Please help me...

Prayer Request

My co-workers and I found out today that the State Executive committee does not think our facility is worth keeping on. They plan to go to legislature and recommend closure at the next meeting in May.
We are a state run facility for mentally ill people who are in crisis, IE: someone who has or feels like attempting suicide and needs a safe place to go. We also help people who are unable to cope with their daily lives due to extreme stress or their meds are not working as well as they were. I have heard from many clients how coming here had kept them from harming themselves or others sometimes even their children.
I am sure I will be able to find another job but the clients will no longer have a safe place to go once we are closed. Please pray that legislature sees the good that our facility does for these people and decides to go against the executive committee.

Did you do something weird and quirky this week?

Please stop by my blog and let me know about it, pretty please? Gymboree....My Little Gym...My gym?! They all seem so great & I just wanted some first-hand reviews on them. My son will be 16 months by the time I am actually able to start taking him. I am a teacher, so I can't start now...but I figured 2 months in the summer would be fun for him & myself! :)
Any help and/or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated! I know I can go to some free trial classes, but wanted to also get some input on if there were any differences.

Obama & being happy.

I have heard so many takes on this--I wanted to put this out there and ask:If you voted for Obama are you still happy with him?Very curious.

legs, shaving & your marriage

Did you shave your legs everyday when you were courting/dating?Did you change this routine as the years of marriage have gone by {more children you have had}? You can read about it HERE. What sort of things make you emotional about being a mom and seeing your children grow? And I would love some insight from mothers of "older" children so I can attempt to keep my sanity! :o)

I need help/ideas

How trhe heck do you make a lepercan trap? I would love to get a sling for our baby (due in June) but I've never worn any of my kids. With four though, I'm going to have to figure something out!
What's the best sling? I would like one that is easy to get in and out of and can grow with the baby.
How hard is it to use them? They've always intimidated me a little. :)
Thanks for any input.

Attention Baby Wearing Mommas!

I saw this on my google feed. Yeehoo! My little girl is transitioning off of formula finally! I tried moving her 4m ago (at 11m old) but she pitched a massive fit and wouldn't drink for three days. And goats don't produce over the winter... so we are just now able to get goats milk.I am beyond thrilled! Her no-dairy, no-soy formula was expensive! I could do a little victory dance right now! Anyone else have kids with food allergies? When did you see them start to grow out of them (if ever)?

Blogs listed below

Does anyone ever read those? I recently found out that my Great Aunt Betty was the first person in the U.S to be granted legal custody of her siblings! I mean I'm sure that she wasn't the first person to take care of her siblings after parents dying, but still kinda cool that she was the fist to do something that happens often now.
Do you have any good stories about your families history?
